Taking Family Photos With Pets
For anyone doing photography, after children, their preference would land at pets. Perfect pictures of your pets would become possible by using these tips. A telephoto lens is what we need to click the animal from a good comfortable distance without scaring it away. If a pet isn’t aware of your photographing venture, it will stay far more natural. When one is down on a pet’s level, he would get a good picture. Since most pets are smaller than we are, this means you may have to get down on your hands and knees to get a good picture. But the results will be worth it particularly if you can get your pet to look straight into the lens.
Clicking your pet is only possible if you are ready and quick. Having the focus already set on the pet and the exposure already set is the only way to be ready. Don’t recheck the focus or recheck the metering a second time.
When shooting pets, exposure isn’t one of the worries. The camera should be used on auto mode or else the exposure should be set according to the light meter. To click a white pet, after taking the meter reading open up one or two f stops. To capture the dark color of a darker pet however, we must drop the f number a few stops.
Pre focusing may be important but where to focus is easy to figure out. A photo having the pet’s eye in focus can have the rest out of focus and no one would notice. When the eye is in focus the picture will be appealing.
If focusing on a dark eye surrounded by dark fur, focus on the highlights in the eye. Switching on a light or turning the pet’s face towards the sun can achieve this. The background can decide how perfect your pet’s photo comes out. Try using a plain background while positioning your pet. The simpler the background, the better your pet will stand out in the picture.
While you click your pet, you might want to keep a friend nearby. Picturing the animal when your friend has his attention is a better option. A pet that trails you to find out what you are doing can be clicked like this. Using these tips would result in perfect pictures of your pet, just remember to be patient.
